MINNEAPOLIS — Native Americans in Philanthropy (NAP) is announcing a call for proposals by January 30, 2017 to receive funding from the Generation Indigenous (#GenIndigenous) Response Fund in support of youth organizing and activism responding to current movements, such as Standing Rock, in ways that build long-term power for Native American youth.

The #GenIndigenous Response Fund, housed at The Minneapolis Foundation, will provide grants on a rolling basis to selected groups of up to $5,000. Thanks to the current support of individual donors and foundations, approximately $50,000 is available. The grant will focus on strategic communications, education, workforce development, juvenile justice, resiliency, traditional knowledge, sustainability, environmental justice, health, trauma and healing. The fund is targeted specifically towards Native American-led organizations playing leadership roles in current movements while considering efforts to support the long-term engagement of Native American youth leaders in advocacy efforts.

The proposal deadline for the first round of grants is Monday, January 30th, 2017. Proposals will be reviewed by the Fund Advisory Committee of NAP board and/or staff who will select up to 5 awardees for the first deadline. Grants from the Response Fund should be utilized within 3-6 months of disbursement. The second deadline for grants will be in March of 2017. Please check NAP’s website for updates on future grantmaking deadlines. Groups applying must be 501(c)(3) or have a fiscal agent which is a 501(c)(3) entity.
