SPIRIT LAKE RESERVATION —  Tribal members of the Spirit Lake Indian are mourning the death of Carla Yellowbird, 27, whose body was discovered near St. Michael on the Spirit Lake Reservation in North Dakota.

Yellowbird, who has been missing since August 23, 2016, was murdered on the reservation according law enforcement.

“I don’t have a precise time, although the body was brought to the attention of the authorities at some point recently, and so that’s why the investigation is ongoing,” said Kyle Loven of the FBI.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office and Bureau of Indian Affairs Police are involved in the ongoing investigation.

The Spirit Lake Reservation is home to the Sisseton Wahpeton Tribe.
