PINE RIDGE INDIAN RESERVATION — The funeral service for Te’ca Lynn Clifford is set for Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at 10:00 a.m., at the Pine Ridge Elementary School Gymnasium in Pine Ridge, South Dakota.

Te’Ca turned 13-years-old on June 22 and she was murdered while walking with a group of friends in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 20, 2016. Te’Ca was hit by a bullet as a gunman shot randomly into the group of youth walking in Pine Ridge Village on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

A suspect was reportedly high on meth at the time of the shooting. He was arrested and little information has been released by tribal police.

This is the second tragedy to hit her family within the past year. Last December, her sister, Tashiana Martia Hernandez, committed suicide.

“They haven’t released a whole lot of information about the killing,” said Mike Her Many Horses, Oglala Sioux Tribal Councilor, who represents the Wounded Knee District, to Native News Online today. “But I will say this: I wonder when will it all end?  We need to ask what is happening to our children?

Te’Ca leaves behind a large family who loved her immensely. Her parents, Crystal Red Kettle and Eli Clifford, Jr. both of Pine Ridge, SD; brother, Christopher Brown of Pine Ridge, SD; grandparents, Frankee and Paul White Dress of Pine Ridge, SD Christine Red Kettle of Rapid City, SD and Lynn Gallego of Pine Ridge, SD; uncles, Tony Red Kettle, Leon Red Kettle, and Cory Clifford, Sr. all of Rapid City, SD, William Hill of Rapid City, SD, and Lenny Clifford, Jr. of Utah; aunts, Phaera Madden, Annie Clifford, & Edie Clifford all of Pine Ridge, SD, Martha Ciccia of Texas, Sarah Clifford of Utah, Lynette Clifford of Bismarck, ND, Julia Clifford of Manderson, SD, Daphne Janis and Sherry Steele both of Pine Ridge, SD, Zaniya White Dress and Angel Hill-White Dress both of Rapid City, SD.
