WASHINGTON — Presumptive Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton on Friday night announced she has chosen Virginia Senator Tim Kaine to serve as her vice president.
Her announcement came shortly after 8 p.m. – ET on Friday night.
The Democrats will hold their convention next week in Philadelphia on the heels of this week’s Republican convention in Cleveland where Donald Trump and Indiana Governor Mike Spence were formally nominated as president and vice president, respectively.
Kaine has a solid background in governance, a trait important to Clinton, who told CNN’s Anderson Cooper earlier this year she wanted to select a vice president who could govern in the event it was necessary to become president. Kaine is said to be one of 20 individuals to have served as a mayor, governor and a senator.
