RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA – Native POP kicks off on Friday, July 15, with a ticketed opening reception and awards presentation at the Dahl Arts Center with $17,000 in total award money. The evening offers entertainment, refreshments, a sneak peek at the market’s premiere art, and a chance to meet and visit with the artists.
On Saturday, July 16, Native POP: People of the Plains presents a juried art show featuring nearly 50 of the Great Plains’ best established and emerging artists, such as Roger Broer, Donald F. Montileaux, Angela Babby, Emil Her Many Horses, Kathy Elk Woman Whitman, and Keith Braveheart. You will have a chance to buy artwork directly from the artists.
Native POP is also a cultural celebration where Native culture bearers will be sharing their knowledge with visitors throughout the day, and pop-up performances will be keeping the day exciting.
For the first year, the event will feature both a fashion show and a Native film showcase. Closing out the day will be free evening performances by Jackie Bird and Friends of Cesar Romero. All of these family-friendly events will bring the community together in the fun, beautiful outdoor venue, Main Street Square, in the heart of downtown Rapid City.
