EL RENO, OKLAHOMA— Tribal representatives from the Cheyenne Arapaho Tribes are meeting with school officials from the El Reno High School currently to discuss the dress code that forbids students from altering their graduation attire to celebrate their culture.

At issue is high school senior, Jonathan Birdshead, was reprimanded at the graduation rehearsal for having a beaded graduation cap. The cap was beaded by one of Jonathan’s relatives.

He was told he cannot wear the beaded graduation cap at tonight’s graduation that is scheduled for at 8:00 p.m. CDT.

El Reno High School has some 800 enrolled students and is located 25 miles west of Oklahoma City.

The school says it will send out a news release after the meeting to let the media know the outcome.
