NEW YORK – Award-winning author Sherman Alexie touched on the 2016 presidential election in TIME Magazine’s May 16, 2016 issue. Alexie (Spokane/Coeur d’Alene) was featured in TIME’s “Quick Talk” section to promote his newest book, “Thunder Boy, Jr.” and was asked five questions.
Question: “Why do you think the question of free speech vs. ‘political correctness’ is on the public’s mind these days?”
Alexie responded: “Internet communication is making people more impulsive. That said, it’s also because we brown folks are sick of this EXPLETE DELTE and we exercise our power. That makes the old power structures uncomfortable-and that’s conservative and liberals. You can see that dynamic with Sanders vs. Clinton, where brown folks are hanging with Clinton.”
TIME then asked: “Why do you think that is?”
Alexie: “Because the government has actually worked for us. So I’m one of the brown folks for Clinton.”
