MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – The Longest Walk 5 – War on Drugs and Domestic Violence visited the Bacone College Center for American Indians Powwow on Saturday, Aprial 23.

The powwow, sponsored by Bacone’s Center for American Indians, featured stickball games, drum competitions, children’s activities and turtle races.

This year’s theme was “Strength, Honor, Tradition, Commitment.”

Dennis Banks, co-founder of the American Indian Movement and leader of the Longest Walk 5, spoke to the community gathered for dinner about the problems American Indians are experiencing across Indian Country because of illegal drugs and domestic violence.

The Longest Walk 5’s participants camped over night at the powwow.
