ZainMartinez2Zain Martinez helps the runners by covering 10 miles on the Cheyenne & Arapaho reservation in Hamon, Oklahoma.  There are three runners helping Longest Walk 5 cover the miles.

HAMON, OKLAHOMA – The Longest Walk 5 – War on Drugs and Domestic Violence made its way into Oklahoma yesterday and will be in the state for at least the next week.

Along the route, local runners sometimes assist the longwalkers and runners by running miles. This gives those who are going across the country much needed rest.

Zain Martinez (Cheyenne/Arapaho) is one such local person who is assisting the Longest Walk 6.  He has been gourd dancing since he was eight years old and has lived in Hamon his whole life. He said:

“Just thought this (running) would help you all,  because you are spreading a good message. and doing this for a good reason.”

When asked why Zain is running, he said,

“Because we have some drug problems in this town and it needs to be addressed. We thought it would be a good idea to walk and run with you all and help you all out, because you are spreading a good message, doing this for a good reason.”
