PINE RIDGE INDIAN RESERVATION — The FBI regional office in Minneapolis confirmed the body of Emily Blue Bird was discovered on Thursday. Blue Bird, 24, the mother of two, had been missing for about three weeks.
Her remains were discovered as family members and volunteers searched for her near Pine Ridge, South Dakota on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
“Blue Bird’s body was discovered late in the afternoon on Thursday,” FBI Chief Division Counsel Kyle Loven confirmed from his Minneapolis office on Friday. “Since the matter is actively being investigated by authorities, no further comment is possible at this time.”
According to social media postings, Blue Bird was last seen New Year’s Day evening at the Yellow Bird convenience store between Pine Ridge Village and the Prairie Wind Casino & Hotel.
There were rumors Blue Bird had been sighted in Rapid City since January 1, 2016.
Authorities indicated an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of Blue Bird’s death.
