FARGO—Lance Robertson, 28, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Larse Azure, Jr., 18, on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation in northeastern North Dakota. Robertson did not enter a plea at his arraignment last Thursday, December 31, 2015.

According to court documents, Robertson was drinking and driving with five other individuals in his 2004 Dodge Durango during the early morning hours of December 19, 2015. The occupants of the vehicle reportedly told Robertson he was driving erratically and an argument ensued. Once parked, the occupants left the truck, which enraged Robertson.

“You’re all dead!” he allegedly yelled and put his truck in reverse, revved his engine, drove the vehicle 20 yards and then stopped. He revved his engine again, put the vehicle in forward and then ran over Azure, who was yelling at Robertson to stop.

Robertson left the scene of the incident. Azure of Fort Totten, North Dakota was taken to Devils Lake Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Robertson was arrested at this mother’s house later that morning. He claimed he had no recollection of hitting Azure, “but recalled feeling afraid and feeling like had done something bad,” according to court documents.

Robertson’s next court appearance is January 8, 2016.
