Turning the Heat on for ABQ Seniors 510 San Pedro SE 87108 Saturday, September 26, 2015 7:30 a.m. The City of Albuquerque Department of Senior Affairs is happy to continue a partnership with the United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters to turn on the heat in the homes of many Albuquerque seniors for the annual Project HEATS ON (Handicapped & Elderly Assistance To Service Our Neighbors). This project and partnership has been in existence for over two decades.
Jorja Armijo-Brasher, Director of the Department of Senior Affairs, will kick off the event at 7:30 a.m. in the union hall, located at 510 San Pedro SE, 87108 on Saturday, September 26, 2015. Since 1991, Local Union 412 has partnered with both the City of Albuquerque’s Department of Senior Affairs and the United Way of Central New Mexico to ensure that seniors stay warm in their homes as the cold weather approaches.
The Department of Senior Affairs screens and provides a list of individuals in our community who will be touched by the volunteer efforts. The union members who will volunteer their time will check furnaces for safety, shut coolers down for the season, immediately fix minor repairs for furnaces if needed, light the furnaces, and replace the batteries for smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. “Mayor Berry and I thank the union members who take time out of their personal schedules to participate in this day of service.” said Jorja Armijo-Brasher. The City of Albuquerque’s Department of
