Victim Helps Detectives Recover Stolen Property

On September 20th, officers were dispatched to a home in the 1400 block of Franciscan St NE, in response to a residential burglary. At the time of the report, officers did not have any suspect information to follow up on. Later that afternoon, the victim called police dispatch to report that the tracker on his stolen iPad was showing to be at his neighbors residence.

Officers and detectives arrived on scene and located the iPad and arrested twenty-five year-old Matthew Gurule for Receiving Stolen Property. Detectives continued their investigation and learned that more of the victims belongings were at Sprunk NE. Detectives obtained a search warrant for that residence and upon serving the search warrant, located numerous items belonging to the victim. Chris Leyba (29), was arrested at the Sprunk address and charged with Residential Burglary and Receiving/Transferring Stolen Property.

Leyba has a significant arrest history, dating back to 2004. With the assistance of an alert and pro-active victim, detectives were able to bring about a positive resolution to this case. We would like to remind the public that they shouldn’t confront or attempt to recover their own property without police assistance, as it can be extremely dangerous.
